The Sweet Life

Images of an era where everything is an event and every day is colorful... even the rainy ones! It must be that midcentury glow.

One Banana, Two Banana, Three Banana, Four...

Five bananas make a bunch and so do many more: Images from The Banana Splits TV show (which ran from 1968 - 1970) and its many pieces of merchandise.

1950s Quiz Show In A Box

Weathered box graphics and rather clean interior of a 1950s electronic kids' game which pre-dates Operation. Complete with wires and a red light bulb to reward a correct answer. I bought this so long ago, I don't recall where or when.

Space-O!

I'm not sure if this flea market find is 1950s or 60s (the package is undated) but it's got a gorgeous set of graphics. If only the box were in better shape....

Krazy Ikes. Concentration. Nirtz.

Three colorful games (from the 1940s, 50s and 60s respectively) that sit proudly among others in my game collection.

1948: Picture Discs With A Purpose

Two of a series of 1948 7-inch picture disc records given to me by a friend. They extol the virtues of cleanliness and circumnavigating those pesky oral fixations.

Creepy Shredded Wheat Puppet Boy

A 1940s Nabisco Shredded Wheat advertising illustration with what looks like a wooden, glass-eyed puppet. His eyes seem almost adoringly fixated upon his breakfast.

It's Slinky, It's Slinky...

It walks down stairs, alone or in pairs and makes a slinkety sound. A 1960s slinky (still in box) that I purchased about 10 years ago.

Staten Island Christmas 1950s & 1960s

My family was a handsome lot back in the day. Hoyt Avenue and Browning Avenue. Staten Island, New York. Many Christmases ago: 1950s & 1960s.

Who Are The Kumpfs?

For 2 dollars I was able to make friends (across space and time) with a proud, fun-loving family whose photo album I purchased from two extremely nice book vendors at Zern's Flea Market in Gilbertsville, Pennsylvania. In the event that this album arrived there by accident, I'm posting it here in the hopes that these images will meet their subjects once again. Ladies and Gents, meet The Kumpfs!
